Maintenance and control

YES, have your fireplace checked every year.

  • With a gas fireplace , that means checking the pilot light or starting pilot.
  • With a wood fireplace , the window should be cleaned regularly.
  • Have an expert check every year to make sure the sealing cord is not worn out.

It is important to use your fireplace correctly to avoid overheating, as this can lead to serious damage and dangerous situations.

  • Use of Wood: It makes no sense to overload the fireplace with wood. Keep in mind that 1 kg of dry wood gives about 4 kW of power. At an efficiency of about 78%, this provides about 3 kW per kilogram. For example, if you want to generate 12 kW of heat, you only need 4 kg of dry wood, which is equivalent to about two medium-sized logs.
  • Risks of Improper Wood Use: Do not use pallet wood or waste wood, as it has high burning power and can lead to overheating, which is a fire hazard. M-Design fireplaces and stoves are not all-burners and are not designed for this type of wood.
  • Consequences of overheating: Overheating can cause serious damage to both the fireplace and the chimney pipe. Screws can burn, seals can break, and plates can loosen, leading to uncontrollable air intake and fire hazards. This often occurs when people try to heat up a cold house quickly.
  • Prohibited materials: It is prohibited to burn treated wood (such as painted or varnished wood) and household waste, as they can give off harmful gases. The use of liquid fuels such as gasoline is also prohibited. Use of these materials cancels the warranty on your fireplace.

Always remember the risks of overheating and follow the guidelines carefully to enjoy your fireplace safely. Remember that improper use can void your warranty.
